Alexander Foster Chin

December 12, 1937 - April 29, 2022 (Age 84)

Dr. Alexander Foster Chin was born on December 12, 1937, Moneague, St. Ann, Jamaica to Humphrey and Betty Chin and went to be with his Lord and Savior April 29, 2022.

When Foster was 4 years old, his father passed away. While Foster was still young, his mother got remarried to Dennis Chin. He attended preschool in Kingston, grade school and middle school in Montego Bay, and high school at Cornwall College in Montego Bay. Most of his time was spent in Maroon Town, St. James, near Montego Bay, with his parents who owned a grocery shop. After high school, he worked in his parents' shop and for Singer Sewing Machines Company. He attended a Christian camp in Jamaica after high school where he accepted the Lord Jesus as his personal Savior.

In 1964, he came on a student visa from Jamaica to the U.S. with one suitcase and hardly any money to study Electrical Engineering at Marion College in Marion, Indiana. He earned his living working as a janitor at the college and also at a box manufacturing company. In 1965, he transferred to Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma, to continue his studies. He graduated in 1969 with a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering and moved to Santa Anna, California, where he worked in Engineering as well as in Seattle, Washington on Boeing airplanes. After being laid off, he moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and taught as a professor at Tulsa Community College teaching Electronic Engineering and Technology and math, and part-time at the OSU-Tulsa campus. He continued his studies at Oklahoma State University and received his Masters in Technical Education and his Doctorate in Adult Education. Foster and another fellow professor also wrote and published a textbook titled “Electronic Instruments and Measurements.” In 1972, he met Barbara Kittner at a church in Tulsa. They were married in 1974 and had two children, Micah and Michelle. In 2000, he retired from Tulsa Community College and in January 2002 he and Barbara moved to Charlotte, North Carolina where Micah and Michelle lived. Foster also served on the Board of Directors for Carmel Hills Assisted Living and Retirement Community for 18 years. During his life, Foster loved studying God's Word, meeting with God's people and supporting different Christian Ministries. He enjoyed traveling, fixing anything and everything, spending time at the beach, cheering on the Oklahoma State Cowboys, and spending time with his family. Along with his parents he is predeceased by a sister Bernadette. Foster is survived by his wife Barbara Chin, son Micah Chin (Ruth Anna) with children Elijah, Sophie, Noah, Lilah and Judah; daughter Michelle Zust (Don) with children Caleb, Lillyan, Joseph and Clara; brothers Carlton, Albert, Chung-Chung, Clyderand, and sisters Julette, Verna, Annette and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
