Rebecca A. Dixon

September 14, 1933 - June 19, 2025 (Age 91)

Rebecca A. (Murphy) Dixon, 91, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Juneteenth, 2025, at Lancaster General Health. Born in Chesterfield County, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Katie (Knox) Murphy.

Rebecca was a proud graduate of Pine Forest High School in South Carolina, where she had the honor of naming the school and was crowned the Pine Forest Queen. After relocating to Lancaster, she worked diligently as a machine operator at J.L. Clark, retiring after 30 years of service.

A devoted woman of faith, Rebecca was a member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church for over fifty years. Under the leadership of the late Rev. Leroy Mapp & Rev. Robert E. McMorris, and Rev. Dr. Roland P. Forbes, Jr., she served her church family with unwavering commitment. She held many roles over the years, including President of the Usher Ministry, President of the Gospel Chorus, Sunday School Teacher, and Church Treasurer.

Rebecca was known for her strength, joy, and deep trust in the Lord. A true prayer warrior, she lovingly referred to her family as “gifts from God,” even saying, “all of them—even if I don’t know all their names.” Her warm hugs and radiant, infectious smile made everyone feel like family, and in her eyes, everyone was family.

An athlete in her younger years, Rebecca played basketball for the Crispus Attucks of Lancaster, PA. She continued to enjoy sports with her loved ones, always up for a softball or volleyball game at family gatherings. A fierce competitor, she especially loved a good game of pitty-pat with her granddaughter Tavi, never cutting her any slack. She relished good food, laughter, and the joy of family “settin’ ups.”

Rebecca also had a love for dancing and lived her life to the fullest—she danced her last dance on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at her great-granddaughter Giera’s graduation party in the park, cheered on by family chanting, “Go Nanny, Go Nanny!” At 91, she could still shake it down.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Elmas E. Dixon; her parents; her brothers, Lester Murphy, Jr., and John Murphy; and her sister, Lena Crosby.

Rebecca is survived by her loving children: Cassandra Owens (Cleveland) of Lancaster, PA; Elemius Dixon of Montreal, Canada; Juiretha Durham (Willard) of Lancaster, PA; Saude Jordan (Spencer) of Lancaster, PA; and Donald Dixon of Lancaster, PA.

She was a proud grandmother to: Theodore Jr. and Tyrone Wilson, both of Lancaster, PA; Tamera Dunbar (Michael) of Charlotte, NC; Mia Dixon of Houston, TX; Monique Dixon of Lancaster, PA; Marisol Santos (Richard) of Alexandria, VA; Latasha Dixon of Reading, PA; Jarrett Sheppard (Dana) of Las Vegas, NV; Joshua Jenkins of Lancaster, PA; Saundra Durham of Charlotte, NC; Timothy Durham of Bristol Borough, PA; Isaac Durham of Philadelphia, PA; Hosea DeShields (Ayana) of New Windsor, NY; Donald and Erica Jordan of Lancaster, PA; Spencer and Kyle Jordan of Montgomery, AL; and Dominic Owens of Raleigh, NC.

She was also blessed with a large legacy of great-grandchildren: Tayler, Lauren, Justin, Tyler, Brianna, Giera, Gerietha, Garrett, Nehemiah, Michael Jr., Iyana, Mia, Tatiana, Evalise, Payton, Ashtyn, Tymere, Jycere, Syaire, Kyzere, Lyniya, Natavia, Aaron, Josiah, Anaya, Donald Jr., Dante, Jordyn, Daelin, and Eric; her great-great grandchildren, Taylen, Semaj, Aaliyah, Amari, R'Yeah, RJ, and Sakani.

Rebecca is also survived by her beloved sisters: Helen Murphy and Rosetta Hargrove of Lancaster, PA, and Ann Simmons of McBee, SC.

She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, godchildren, and her extended church family. Rebecca’s legacy of love, faith, strength, and joy will live on in all who were blessed to know her. We rejoice in the life she lived and the love she gave so freely.

A Homegoing Service will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 701 N. Lime Street, Lancaster, PA 17602, on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. Friends are invited to the viewing starting at 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will follow the service at Conestoga Memorial Park.
