Robert Bucks
January 15, 1946 - August 2, 2024 (Age 78)
Robert (Bob) H. Bucks was born on January 15, 1946, at Lancaster General Hospital to Henry R. and Nancy Brumbaugh Bucks. They lived in Lancaster at the time but soon moved to a home in Stackstown where Bob and his 4 siblings grew up. He was the middle child with older brothers, William A. and Michael D. Bucks. At age 9, along came a pesky little sister, Nancy J. and ultimately, the youngest brother, Jeffrey L. Bucks. Bob and his older brothers began school in a one-room school house near Stackstown but eventually attended Elizabethtown High School. After school, he entered the Army and was made a helicopter mechanic and gunner and served his country proudly in Vietnam.
A few years later, he met Barbara Shirk and they married in December, 1968 and soon settled in Elizabethtown. They were blessed with 3 sons, Bryan A. Bucks, Brady A. Bucks, and Benjamin A. Bucks, who all attended Elizabethtown area schools. Bob and Barb made a happy life together for 42 years until her passing in 2011 of cancer. They were also blessed with the following grandchildren: Cameron and Nathan to Bryan and Sarina Bucks, Leigha, Ariah, and Milana to Brady and Joanne Bucks and Nickolas and Sierra to Ben and Holly Bucks. Sadly, after Barb’s passing, Bob was also blessed with 3 great-grandchildren: Alford, Theodora, and Jasper Bucks. Incredibly, he is also survived by his aunt Janet Bucks Field (94) of Durham, CT.
Bob had an interesting and productive career as he worked 30 plus years as an industrial electrician for Armstrong. He was made a foreman, supervisor, head of department and eventually helped design and implement plants for Armstrong around the world. His hobbies have included: hunting, fishing, golf, boating, water and snow skiing, painting beautiful art work, playing his 12-string guitar and singing karaoke. However, he mostly loved sharing and doing these sports with his family. He and Barb had a cabin on an island in the river and spent countless summers there with their children. Over the years, anytime the family could come together and celebrate one another or a holiday, it was done. They are blessed to be a loving and close family. Bob and Barb attended church regularly and developed long and close friendships with Gary and Terry Schmidt, Ann and Rich Mellott as well as Phill and Kathy Ogden. After Barb’s passing, Bob developed a close friendship with Judy Spencer until his passing.
Bob also has nieces and nephews that love and will deeply miss him. Susan D. (Bucks) Finke of Alexandria, VA, Garth Bucks of Arlington, VA, Shelly (Bucks) Baer of Lancaster, Mickey Bucks of Lancaster, and Melissa Batis of Titusville, FL, and their families. Ultimately, Bob led a full, productive life that was well lived and well loved!
