In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Hilliard and Margaret Hunter Lewis, his paternal grandparents Moses and Henrietta McCoy Davis, sisters Mary E. Davis and Marian Austin, brothers Joseph Davis, Jr. and James Arthur Davis, and son Christopher Eley.

As a child, he attended Shiloh Baptist Church in Whitakers, NC with his family and many cousins. He often spoke of going to Shiloh Church on Sundays, and getting to play with his many cousins who were like brothers and sisters to him.

He attended Bricks School in Edgecombe County, NC and C.H. Darden High School in Wilson, NC. He joined the U.S. Air Force and was initially stationed in Amarillo AFB, TX. Later he was assigned to Hunter AFB, GA. He served during the Korean War, and after ten years of military service in the Air Force as an airplane mechanic, he settled in Columbus, OH. Here he eventually made his home. After working for AAMCO Transmission as a mechanic for several years, he went on to open his own business.

During his time in Columbus, he moved his membership to New Covenant Believers Church where he met Amelia. Until his health began to decline, he and Amelia would travel to North Carolina to attend the family reunion every year, and visit Shiloh Church.

“Dave” as he was affectionately called, was a loyal and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was well versed in many topics and enjoyed engaging in conversation with anyone. He enjoyed watching the news and weather several times a day. He would call his family in Wilson, NC whenever they were threatened with bad weather to make sure they were alright. He never missed an opportunity to let his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews know how proud of them he was. He and his wife were avid fans of all Ohio State sports teams.
