Agnes Slay

October 1, 1930 - September 25, 2021 (Age 90)

Agnes Slay, 93, passed away Saturday, September 25, 2021 in her home surrounding by her loving family.

Agnes was born in Robins, Ohio (Trail Run) to Stephen and Anna (Odlivak) Beskid on October 1, 1927. She graduated high school from Community Rural School in Trail Run. It has been the talk of the family that she was a better basketball player than any boy in the school. She married Dallas Dan Slay on September 16, 1947 in Greenup, Kentucky. She worked for the Cambridge Glass Company and the RCA Company in Cambridge, Ohio. Agnes enjoyed reading and listening to the Cincinnati Reds baseball team (even in their lean years). Of all Agnes’ roles and talents, the one she poured her heart and soul into was that of being an excellent mother. Her greatest joy was being a mother to her sons and a loving grandmother to her grandchildren.

Agnes is preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband of 58 years, Dan; sisters: Ann (Tony) Lubinsky, Kathy Beskid, Mary Bechtel, Margaret (William) Spillman; and Helen (George) Emerick; and a brother Joseph (Victoria) Beskid.

Agnes is survived by her sons: Thomas (Missy) Slay of Cincinnati, OH and Christopher (Kimmarie) Slay of Pleasantville, IA; brother Stephen (Donna) Beskid of Byesville, OH; brother in law David Slay of Cambridge, OH; sister in law Becky (Sarchet) Slay of Stow, OH; grandchildren: Shane (Lisa) Slay of Morrow, OH, Amy (Bill) Goodlick of Lebanon, OH, Amanda (Sory) Soumare of Des Moines, IA, and Nate Slay of Des Moines, IA; step granddaughters: Ashlee (Shawn) Heine of Loveland, OH, and Emily Goodlick of Florence, KY; great grandchildren: Blake Slay, Lucas Goodlick, Eli Goodlick and Ibrahim Soumore; and numerous nieces, nephews and wonderful neighbors.

The family of Agnes wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and Genesis Hospice for the amazing care that was offered to her. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Genesis Hospice, 713 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, OH 43701.

Calling hours will be from 11AM to 1PM Wednesday, September 29 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD ZANESVILLE. The sons of Agnes invite family and friends to join them for the graveside service that will take place following the visitation at 1:30PM in Zanesville Memorial Park with Bishop Pumphrey of The Church of Latter-Day Saints officiating.
