Alcira Castillo

July 19, 1951 - January 9, 2024 (Age 72)

Alcira Castillo, a loving mother and cherished grandmother, peacefully departed to join the Lord on January 9, 2024, at the age of 72, surrounded by the warmth of her loved ones. Alcira is survived by her eldest daughter, Sonia Martinez; son, Oliver Castillo; elder sister, Griselda Soto Calderon; and grandson, Daniel Martinez.

Born on July 19, 1951, in Mazatenango, Guatemala, to Adan Soto and Candelaria Calderon Marquez, Alcira was the second of three children. Alcira moved to New York in 1972 where she met her husband, Gary Castillo. Together they instilled the Christian faith in their two children. After 20 years, Gary and Alcira divorced; however, the enduring love of Jesus Christ remained steadfast in her heart, and they remained lifelong best friends.

In 2002, Alcira's daughter was married, and in 2005, she moved to Monroe, North Carolina to help care for her newborn grandson, Daniel Martinez. While living in North Carolina, she became a member of Iglesia Sion, Asambleas de Dios, where she continued to serve the Lord Jesus Christ.

Alcira has spent her remaining years serving the Lord, her friends, and family. She has been a great example of how to live by the Spirit and love unconditionally. Alcira loved to study the Word of God and used the gift of teaching, for equipping her brothers and sisters in Christ. She exemplified the unshakeable love of Jesus Christ by embracing the wife and two daughters of her ex-husband. With her unshakeable love, she has brought together two families who’ve become inseparable.

Alcira has garnered many friendships throughout her life and has been a mentor to many people within her church, community, and family. In the last year of her life, she has fought her greatest test of faith by surviving Lymphoma and kidney disease. Alcira passed away from Pneumonia related to COVID, and she be greatly missed. We have the assurance that her faith in Christ has brought her into His presence and it is of great comfort to her family.

A funeral honoring her life will be held on Tuesday, January 16, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Heritage Funeral Home located at 4431 Old Monroe Rd, Indian Trail, NC 28079. The burial service takes place on Wednesday, January 17, at 1:00 p.m. at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8901 Lawyers Road, Charlotte, NC 28227.
