Alexandria Turnsek

Alexandria M. “Alice” Turnsek, 98, of Herminie, peacefully passed away on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026 at her home, surrounded by her family . She was born Oct. 29, 1927, in Glen Savage, Somerset County , daughter of the late John and Blanche ( Skavinski) Shavara. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bennie S. Turnsek in 1991; daughter, Andrea Lambert; brother, Stanley Shavara; two sisters, Stephanie Kott and Helen Frohnhofer

Alice graduated from Sewickley High School , class of 1946, and began working for H. Reginald Belden in Greensburg for five years, before starting her family. She was a life member of Saint Edward Church in Herminie since 1940 , where she belonged to the altar rosary society and resurrection choir. She was also a member of the Herminie Ladies Auxiliary VFW post 8427 , and was very involved in volunteering at the Red Cross blood drives. She loved her family; she always put caring and helping others above her own needs. Holidays were always at mom‘s house; she was a great cook and loved cooking for her family, friends , and for all the priest at the church for many, many years. She loved canning fresh vegetables from her garden. She also loved bowling for over 40 years, walking with friends at Crabapple Lake Park, playing cards with family and friends, and going on bus trips to the casinos.

Alice is survived by her two sons, Bernard (Theresa) Turnsek and John ( Deborah) Turnsek; eight special grandchildren, William III , Michael, Matthew, Heather, Paul, John, Daniel and Christina; fourteen special great - grandchildren, Bailey, Bella, William IV, Michael, Griffin, Emma, Benjamin, Elijah, Alainah, Oliviah, Lydia, Landon, Elise, and Lucas; brother -in-law, Bill Turnsek and son-in-law, William Lambert II ; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins, whom loved her dearly.

Alice was beautiful inside and out; shevwill forever be remembered for her beautiful smile and kindness she showed throughout the years. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and special neighbors. Everyone loved her nickname “ Chubs” and her special color pink.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to all the caregivers, Carey and Darcey Franicola, Jennifer Lyons, Heather Chervanka, Beth Suomela, and Briana DeFelice, for all their compassion and devotion to their mom. They also would like to thank the staff at Bridges Hospice in Greensburg.

Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2026, at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026 in St Edward Church, Herminie. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.
