Alfred J. Schwoeble

February 10, 1938 - November 25, 2023 (Age 85)

Alfred (Skip) Schwoeble, 85, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023 surrounded by his family. Born on February 10, 1938 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Mary (Hearn) Schwoeble and Al Schwoeble. Skip was raised in Turtle Creek and attended St. Coleman’s Catholic School through eighth grade. Growing up, he served as an altar boy and sang in the church choir. He was a proud “Creeker” throughout his years at Turtle Creek High School and excelled in many sports. Skip was the quarterback of his high school football team and played on the baseball team as well. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and specialized in sonar. For much of his service, he was stationed in Key West, Florida and his athletic ability earned him the shortstop position on the United States Navy Baseball Team. Skip’s experience at US Steel Research and the U.S. Naval Research Lab, led to a career in forensic science at R.J. Lee Group Inc., where he was the Director of Forensics. In addition to many publications, Mr. Schwoeble authored the book, Current Methods of Forensic Gunshot Residue Analysis that was used in college courses and by law enforcement agencies. He was an internationally respected expert in gunshot residue, analyzed evidence from over 1500 cases, testified in more than 150 trials, and was featured on several episodes of Forensic Files. Skip enjoyed music, played the guitar, and was the lead singer in a local band for many years. In addition to singing at wedding receptions, special events, and stage performances, he shared his music with his family and passed this passion on to his family members. Mr. Schwoeble was a family man in the truest sense of the word. All who were blessed to be a part of his family felt his powerful love and knew that he would do absolutely anything for them. He had a way to lighten any situation with his quick-witted humor, and he brought his strength and joy to every family gathering with his music and stories. He was a loving husband, father, papa, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and son. Skip loved to tell the story of “marrying the girl next door”—Nancy (Duffy) Schwoeble to whom he was happily married for sixty-four years. His own words describe the depth of their love best. When a daughter commented to him that he and Mom had become one person when spending so much time together during Covid, his immediate reply was, “We were always one person.” Alfred “Skip” Schwoeble was preceded in death by his parents, the late Mary (Hearn) and Al Schwoeble and his brother, the late Steve Schwoeble. Skip is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; his four daughters, Teri (Benny), Cindy (Eric), Tammy, (Jeffrey), and Sherri (Paul); eight grandchildren, Erica (Adam), Nick, Brittany (Shane), Anthony D., Ashley (Sean), Anthony C. (Heather), Angela, and Alyssa; six great-grandchildren, Jackson, Caden, Adelyn, Finley, Cameron, and Eilley; siblings, Mary Carol, Robert (Natalie), Tom, and Linda. Skip is also survived by brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29th at the GENE H. CORL FUNERAL CHAPEL INC.AND CREMATION SERVICES OF MONROEVILLE, 4335 Northern Pike (412-372-2100), and where a Blessing Service will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. with Deacon Herb Riley officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to be made to the American Heart Association.
