Alice Dziuban

March 10, 1922 - December 23, 2023 (Age 101)

Family and friends are welcome to attend a funeral Mass celebrating the life of Alice Evelyn (Elliott) Dziuban on August 19, 2024 at 10 a.m. at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Yukon, Pa. Alice, who had lived in Georgia since the death of her husband, Stephen, in 2014, died in her sleep on December 23, 2023 in Savannah, Ga.

Married to Steve for more than 65 of her 101 years, she will be interred at their grave site at Westmoreland County Memorial Park in Greensburg in the afternoon of August 19.

Alice was born on March 10, 1922 in Herminie. Her mother, Anna Catherine (Johnson) Elliott, had 100 percent Scandinavian roots, with parents from Sweden and Finland immigrating to United States in the 1800s. Her father, Hansel Raymond Elliott, had a more diverse ancestry as he descended from French and British immigrants who arrived in America in the 1600s.

Most of Alice's life was spent in Westmoreland County. After first living in Herminie, she grew up on a family farm on Ladysmith Road between Darragh and Madison.

At Sewickley Area High School in Herminie, Alice was active in sports such as archery and softball, served as a cheerleader, performed as a tap dancer, and graduated near the top of her class. She was very proud that she and her younger brother, Charles, never missed a day in their 12 years of public school.

Her first jobs were at Miller's Inn in Madison and Beitler's Restaurant in Greensburg, followed by employment at thermostat-maker Robertshaw in New Stanton along with her father, husband-to-be and many other Dziubans.

After her marriage to Steve in 1948, they initially lived with her parents at the farm before buying a home in Madison in 1954. Following the death of Alice's mother and her father's move to a smaller home near Greensburg, she and Steve purchased the 52-acre farm in 1961. The farm hosted dogs, cats, chickens and a rooster, guinea hens, a duck or two, rabbits, foxes (one year) and as many as 100 sheep. Following the death of her father, she and Steve purchased his Greensburg home and moved there in 1996.

A stay-at-home mom who was always there to support her children and husband, Alice was a great cook/baker, seamstress, discount shopper, and collector extraordinaire of shoes and clothing. In addition to spending time on a ladder when Steve needed help painting the house and in the massive garden that yielded so many vegetables, she also served as a mid-wife for sheep who had trouble delivering their lambs. While living in Madison and at the farm, she was a member of the Seven Dolors Christian Mothers, the Madison Volunteer Fire Department Women's Auxiliary and the Madison Golden Agers.

Travel also played a part in her life. Along with visiting their children in various states, she and Steve enjoyed taking cruises and regularly frequenting casinos in West Virginia and New Jersey.

Alice is survived by her daughters, Linda Levine (husband Stuart) of Savannah, Ga., and Colleen Dziuban (husband Greg Szabo) of Colleyville, Texas; son, Greg Dziuban (wife Kathy) of Savannah, Ga.; grandson, Elliott Dziuban (wife Melissa) of San Diego, Calif.; and granddaughter, Rose Picanco of Jacksonville, Fla. She also is survived by her sister-in-law, Jane Elliott, of Columbus, Ohio, and a multitude of nephews and nieces.
