Andrea Dorwart

May 28, 1944 - February 10, 2022 (Age 77)

Andrea Dorwart, 77, of Lower Burrell, passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022 following a long battle with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. During her final weeks, she was surrounded by her loving family in her home. She was born May 28th, 1944, in Arnold, to the late John and Olga Pozel. Andrea was a resident of the New Kensington, Arnold and Lower Burrell area her entire life. Mrs. “D” was a dedicated, caring and talented art teacher in the New Ken Arnold School District for over 30 years. During her time there she sponsored prom, yearbook and majorettes. She loved to paint, draw, create Christmas balls, Ukrainian pysanky Easter eggs, and spend time with family and friends. She was a former parishioner of John Huss Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arnold where she was an organist from the age of 14 until well into her 60’s. Andrea enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas, the ocean and to see her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing Canasta, hitting the slot machines and drinking martinis, Manhattans and Blood Mary’s. Andrea is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Dorwart, of Lower Burrell; son, James (Amy) Dorwart, of Smithfield, Va.; and grandchildren, Milena and Connor Dorwart. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Patricia (Ronald) Amon, of Youngsville, PA, and Linda Lesko, of Vandergrift, PA; nieces, Kimberly Williams and Christy (Cory) Chapman; and a nephew, Steven Amon.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James Merle Dorwart.

Friends will be received Sunday, February 13 from 1 PM until time of funeral service at 4 PM by Rev. Dean Ward at the RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Rd. at Alder St. The family requests masks worn inside the funeral home. Private burial will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell at a later date. A Public celebration of life will be held in New Kensington, PA on May 28, 2022 at a location to be determined so that friends, family members, colleagues and students can gather and honor her life and memories. Donations may be made to the family in lieu of flowers or food to establish a scholarship for students that want to pursue art from Valley High School or to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society who provided Andrea with support and treatment for her cancer over 15 years.
