Arnold Wilson

November 9, 1923 - June 25, 2024 (Age 100)

Mr. Arnold “Buck” Wilson, 100 years old, a lifetime resident of Charlotte, was called home to be with his Lord on June 25, 2024. He is survived by his son Dennis Arnold Wilson of Merritt Island, Florida, and his daughter Amy Wilson Rogers and her husband David R. Rogers, and his only grandson Calvin Jay Rogers, also of Merritt Island, Florida. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Mrs. June Geaslen Wilson.

Mr. Wilson was born on November 09, 1923 in the small coal mining town of Nemacolin, in southwestern Pennsylvania just below Pittsburgh. He was preceded in death by his parents George Washington Wilson and Winnifred Mazie Wilson of Nemacolin, PA. He was also preceded in death by all of his siblings; six brothers and four sisters. As a youth, he was an active member and participant of the Boy Scouts of America. He attended Cumberland Township High School in Carmichaels, PA and immediately left the State after the conclusion of his graduation day ceremony in the month of May of 1942. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served at several stateside-based Marine Corps camps before shipping out to serve his country overseas in the South Pacific theatre of World War II. The performance of his duty led him to the formerly Japanese-held islands of Truk, Rabaul, and Guam. He was honorably discharged in May 1946 after World War II had concluded.

After his military service, he was employed as an accountant by the Sealtest Dairy Company in Washington, DC and relocated with the company to Charlotte, NC where he met the love of his life Miss June Clara Geaslen. After a brief courtship, they were married in December of 1956. They moved into a modest home on Tipperary Place in east Charlotte, NC where they raised their two children, Dennis and Amy, and resided for almost 50 years. After working for Sealtest Dairy, he then worked for Jack’s Cookie Company (Kraft Bakers) for the final 20 years of his career; Ice Cream and Cookies for 40 years, what a pair of dream jobs! For most of his adult life he was an avid back-yard gardener and grew some of the largest local tomatoes and okra plants that we had ever seen. He was also a skilled woodcrafter, enjoyed coin collecting and watching his beloved Atlanta Braves baseball team on television.

Mr. Wilson was an active member of the Masonic fraternity for over 72 years and was an active member of Phalanx Masonic Lodge # 31 in Charlotte. He was also a proud member of the Oasis Shriners fraternity in Charlotte for almost 50 years. He was committed to helping the elderly, the indigent, and the children’s hospitals that these two grand fraternities serve. He and his wife June were also dedicated members of the First United Methodist Church in uptown Charlotte, where he is still a member.

In the last years of his life, Mr. Wilson moved from Charlotte to Merritt Island, Florida and lived with his son Dennis for eight years. He enjoyed the year-round sunshine, surf fishing and wading in the warm ocean waters on the beaches of sunny Florida.

On behalf of Mr. Wilson, the surviving family would like to thank several people that were instrumental friends during Buck’s lifetime; including Bill Schiffbauer and his son Bobby Schiffbauer, George “Billy” Wilson, James Boyette, Henry Walker, Carole Payne, Kathryn Rogers, Bob Saye, Maryann Dingess, the numerous nieces and nephews, in-laws, surviving family members, and the countless number of friends that he enjoyed spending time with. He genuinely loved them all.

The Wilson and Rogers families will receive friends on Monday evening July 1st, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, at the Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC 28105. The funeral service will be held the following morning Tuesday, July 2nd, also at the Lowe-Neddo Home, with a chapel service starting at 11:30 am, then immediately moving to a graveside burial service, with Masonic rites and Marine Corps military rites, at the Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227. Immediately after the burial service, the family wishes to invite you to a Celebration of Life gathering to be held in the dining hall of the Holiday Inn Express, located at 9420 East Independence Blvd. in Matthews, NC 28105 where food and refreshments will be served.

In lieu of flowers; the family requests that donations be made to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, in care of Oasis Shriners, 604 Doug Mayes Place, Charlotte, NC 28262. Out of town visitors are encouraged to lodge with our family at the Holiday Inn Express, located at 9420 East Independence Blvd. in Matthews, NC 28105.
