Barbara Maria Beeman

October 23, 1931 - September 23, 2023 (Age 91)

Barbara Maria Beeman, 91, of Moorefield, WV, formerly of LaVale, MD, died September 23, 2023, at the E. A. Hawse Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born October 23, 1931, in Boise, Idaho, she was the daughter of the late George and Annie Bell (Stuart) Whiting.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald “Don” E. Beeman, and her siblings Carl, Annabelle, and Bud.

Prior to starting her family, Mrs. Beeman had worked at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. She was then a clerk at Sacred Heart Hospital and a substitute teacher.

As a full time mother, her time was spent caring for her children, cooking, and baking. She also made her children’s clothes, along with bedspreads and curtains.

After her children were grown, she was a seamstress, providing alterations at Heinrich’s Clothing Store in LaVale and later at LaVale Dry Clean.

In her spare time, she used her sewing skills to design and make quilts as well as raise black raspberries. She was an avid gardener and loved flowers. During COVID, Mrs. Beeman and her daughter, Donna, made over 200 dresses for the AWANA “Fill a Shoebox” program (Operation Christmas Child, Samaritan’s Purse Project).

Survivors include her children, Donna Simmons and husband Mike, Vicki Crawford and husband Joe, and Dan Beeman and wife Angela; grandchildren, Crystal Crites and husband Tim, Shawn Simmons, J.T. Crawford and wife Emily, Daniel Lee Beeman, Jonathan Beeman, Emily Rumley and husband Robert, and Abigail Santos and husband Jose’; great grandchildren Kylie Mullins and husband Phillip, Kysen Crites, and Tinley Crites; and, many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, on Friday from noon until 2 PM. The funeral service will follow at 2 PM, with Pastors Joe Crawford and J.T. Crawford, officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
