Barbara Thomas Ritchie Deal, 86, of Charlotte, died Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the Levine and Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC.
Barbara was born in Georgetown County, South Carolina, on September 5, 1937, the daughter of John Willie and Lena Belle Neely Thomas. She grew up there and after school, she married Wendell Keener Green. They were blessed with four children: Deborah, Cheryl, Wendell and Victoria. Barbara took the role of homemaker and mother to heart. Barbara also enjoyed gardening in her yard. After her husband died In 1962, she and her family came to Charlotte and began life living here renting on Hawthorne Lane. Barbara had been a resident of Charlotte ever since. Ever the caregiver, she further cared for others on the hospitality group at Mulberry Baptist Church. Most of all, she loved the time spent with family and friends.
Barbara is survived by her children: Deborah (husband Rob) Benage of Mauldin, SC, Cheryl Marie Little of Billings, MT, and Wendell (Heather) Green of Winder, GA. She is further survived by her grandchildren: Nicole, AJ, Chrissy, Roxanne, Sandra, Chris, Ryan and Angie; her siblings: Patricia Belk and Myrtle Long; James E Greene, the stepdad who was more a dad to her children; and numerous other relatives and friends. In addition to her first husband, Wendell, Barbara was preceded in death by her daughter, Victoria; her husband, Thurman Ritchie; and her siblings Dee Smith and Johnny Thomas.
Barbara’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for her and for them. Visitation will take place from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, September 4, in the funeral home chapel, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC 28105. Graveside services will take place on Thursday, September 5, at 1 pm at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Charlotte, NC 28227.
