Battista Turlington

Battista Turlington, 69, of Newport News, VA, beloved sister, aunt, and dear friend, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 12, 2024. She passed away peacefully at the Hampton VA Medical Center in Virginia after valiantly battling breast cancer. Battista was born June 13, 1955, in Pottstown, PA, to the late Isaac Thomas Turlington and Julia Catherine Marie (Carr) Turlington. Battista, the seventh of thirteen children, graduated from Pottstown Senior High School in 1973 and joined the United States Air Force in 1974. She served her country faithfully until 1997 when she honorably retired from the USAF as a Master Sergeant.
Although Battista never married or had children, she cherished her role as an aunt, treating her nieces and nephews with the same love and care as if they were hers. Battista was passionate about crossword puzzles, word searches, and reading Harlequin romance novels. She also enjoyed preserving memories through picture taking and scrapbooking, hobbies that allowed her to express her creativity and love for her family. She was a member of the Red Cross Croppers, the Kirkwood Croppers, and the West Hampton Baptist Church Scrapbookers.
Battista was an active member of the Langley Air Force Base Chapel for almost 30 years. Her love for children, singing, and community led her to serve faithfully. She served as a Lay Leader, Children’s Church teacher, Children’s Sunday School class teacher, sang in the choir, participated in the Terrific Tuesday Bible study, the 2nd Saturday Women’s Bible study, and the Intercessory Prayer Group for the Langley AFB Gospel Service Ministries. She also served on the Protestant Women of the Chapel committee, Vacation Bible Study, AWANA, and Harvest Festival volunteer for the Langley AFB Chapel Ministries. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and Community Bible Study in the Hampton Roads and Newport News.
Remaining to cherish Battista’s memory are her brothers, Isaac (Butch) Turlington, Stowe, PA; Garry Turlington (Lisa), Charlotte, NC; John Turlington, Pottstown, PA; and David Turlington, NC; sisters, Geraldine Turlington, Pottstown, PA; Julia (Turlington) Jackson, Stowe, PA; Beatrice Turlington-Wynn (Keith), Blythewood, SC; goddaughter Mary Turlington-Powell (Sammie Jr.); a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, great- nieces and great-nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews and her Langley AFB Chapel family, with SPECIAL recognition to Barbara Rivers and Gemiel Matthews.
Preceding Battista in death are her parents, Isaac and Catherine Turlington; brothers, Sheldon Turlington and Gerald Turlington; sisters, Mary Anne Turlington, Shirley (Turlington) Robles Rios and Ophelia Turlington.
A Homegoing service will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 11 AM at the Warker-Troutman Funeral Home Inc., Pottstown. A viewing for family and friends will be held at the funeral home from 10 AM to 11 AM. Following the service, the interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, 701 Farmington Avenue, Pottstown. Military Honors will be conducted.
