Betty Catherine Thomas

Betty Catherine (Golden) Thomas, 101, of Cumberland, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at Allegany Health Nursing and Rehab.
Born June 17, 1924, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Robert Russell and Anna Virginia (Stubblefield) Golden. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Charles Edward Thomas; an infant daughter, Melodie Ann Thomas; one brother who lost his life in WWII, Clyde E. “Hoop” Golden and daughter-in-law, Marsha L. Thomas.
Betty was a 1942 graduate of Fort Hill High School and retired in 1987 from Cumberland Nursing Center after 20 years in the Physical Therapy Department. She worked at National Jet Corporation during WWII. She was a past matron of McKinley Chapter 12 and past president of the Past Matron Association of Western Maryland. Betty served as a deputy grand lecturer; a grand representative of Maryland in Ontario, Canada, and was a volunteer in the Hospice Unit at Memorial Hospital for 8 years. She was a member of Mount Hermon United Methodist Church, South Cumberland Business and Civic Association, and Fort Hill Band Parents Association.
Betty married her husband, Charles on February 2, 1943. Betty enjoyed cooking, reading and traveling. Betty and Charles loved traveling to Florida every year with Bill and Helen Eilers and many other friends.
Betty is survived by her two sons, Keith E. Thomas and wife Sandra and Timothy B. Thomas and partner, Carol; special grandson, Sean Thomas and wife Kristie; two great-granddaughters, Kylie and Makinlie Thomas; four grandchildren, Tracy Deshazier and husband, Joe, Allan Thomas and wife Erica, Tabrina Squires and husband Danny and Breanna Thomas and partner, Jeremy; many great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown on Friday, June 20, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor John W. Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.

The family would like to thank the staff of Allegany Health Nursing and Rehab for the 8 years of care they gave to Betty.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Marker, Bobby Thomas, Johnny Markley, Steve Sensabaugh, Tucker Sensabaugh, and Gene Combs with Ron Middleton as an Honorary Pallbearer.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
