Betty J. Mellott

Betty Jane (Bennett) Mellott, 97, of Mercer, Pennsylvania, passed away on Tuesday, November 04, 2025 at UPMC Horizon-Shenango Hospital, Farrell, PA. She was born on October 05, 1928 in Point Marion, PA; the daughter of the late Eugene and Margaret (Rheinhart) Bennett. She attended Point Marion High School. While working at the local movie theater she met the love of her life; Harold Junior Mellott and they were united in marriage on May 4, 1950. Harold “June” preceded her in death on December 25, 2014.
Betty and June started their family together in Everett, PA. However, it was her husband’s trucking career that would take them to Butler, PA. Eventually, they would move one more time to Mercer, PA. Along the way Betty made lifetime friendships that she treasured even up to her last day. She never met a stranger. She enjoyed chatting with anyone she met. She often recounted stories of her past which included family vacations, camping trips she had been on with her family and life in Point Marion. Her family and friends meant the world to her and she cherished her pictures of them, visits and weekly phone calls from them.
She will forever be loved and missed by so many.
She is survived by four children: Charles Robert Mellott, Sr. married to Shirley Ann (Donaldson) of Everett, PA, Harold Dennis Mellott and fiancé Cheryl Barkman of Clearville, PA, Brenda Kay married to Robert Charles Patterson of Grove City, PA, and Lonnie Judson Mellott married to Terry (McCluskey) of Mercer, PA; five grandchildren Charles Robert Mellott married to Nicki (Miller) of Bellefonte, PA, Christie Renee (Mellott) married to Darrell Datko, of Clarion, PA, Robert Charles Patterson, Jr. and Kelly Ann Patterson both of Grove City, PA, Matthew Cory Mellott of Mercer, PA, five great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and a brother-in-law Don Jackson of Mt. Pleasant, PA.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters, Mary Lou Tousley and Joyce Ann Jackson.
Friends and family will be received on Monday, November 10, 2025 from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of service at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA 15537 with Pastor Sue Detterline officiating.
Burial will be held privately at Bedford County Memorial Park.
