Betty J. Porter

A funeral ceremony for Betty J. (Martin) Porter, age 93, of Newark will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 20 at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Rev. Heather Thum-Gerber, officiating. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Zanesville Memorial Park.
Betty passed away on September 15, 2022 at home with her daughters by her side. She was born in Columbus, Ohio on June 11, 1929 to the late Harry Jones and Julia L. (Custer) Martin.
She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to play cards with “her friends” and spending time with her family. She appreciated the true gift of being a homemaker as she enjoyed cooking, crocheting and caring for others. Her and her late husband enjoyed camping and fishing. Betty looked forward to reading books by James Patterson and other mystery novels.
She is survived by her two daughters, Shirley (David) Coakley and Linda (James) Lawrence; grandchildren, Wendy (Kyle) Dinan, Paul (Jason) McLoughlin, Greg (Drew) Lawrence and Misty Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Jakeb Dinan, Parker Dinan, Carter Dinan, Kiernan Rock and June Rock; and a brother, Fred (Evelyn) Martin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, of 71 years, Charles William “Bill” Porter, whom she married on December 20, 1948; a great-granddaughter, Kylee Dinan; three sisters, Dorothy (Johnny) Jones, Jean (Bob) Mellars and Barbara Casler.
Family and friends may attend visitation on Monday, September 19, from 5-7 p.m. and prior to the service (10-11 a.m.) on Tuesday, September 20 at The Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation, 59 Fifth Street, Newark.
