Betty J. Ridgeley
July 20, 1939 - January 22, 2023 (Age 83)
Cumberland, MD- Betty Jane Ridgeley, 83, born in Cumberland, MD on July 20th, 1939 passed away from this life to be with our Lord on January 22, 2023 at WVU Ruby Memorial Hospital.
Betty is remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a good listener, and her advice was always on point, she always knew best, and her children will now agree that mom really was always right. Known as Gram by her grandchildren, she had a deep, pure love for every single one of them.
Betty was an avid shuffleboard shooter, belonging to the Alleghany County Women’s Shuffleboard League since the 1950s. She could fiercely play the spoons, enjoyed camping at Rocky Gap for more than 20 years with the “Golden Girls” and family, and most notably could make the world’s best sausage gravy.
Later in life, Betty began to deepen her connection with Jesus. She attended church regularly at Family Ministry Church and was even deemed as the church’s best worshipper by her pastor. Betty would often say “I’m happy when I’m in church”. Betty was baptized in Jesus name and received the gift of the holy spirit, the family is at peace knowing their mother's salvation is secured.
Betty is survived by her sister, Freda Virginia Long of Cumberland and four children, Marshall Lee "Mark" Ridgeley Jr. and wife Abby, Ridgeley, WV, Karen Jane Viney and husband Russell, Wiley Ford, WV, Cheryl Ann Lagano and husband Joseph, Martinsburg, WV, Vance Allen Ridgeley Sr. and wife Aletha, Cumberland; Niece Patricia Clark of Cumberland, 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Marshall Lee Ridgeley Sr., Father Milton Freeman Welsh, Mother Anna Carol Twigg, Siblings: Lennie, Leonard, Evelyn, Dorothy, Bob, George, Jim, Freeman, and Kenny. Favorite Niece Patty Ann Kesler, and Nephew Junior Welsh.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown, MD, on Saturday, January 28, 2023, from 11am to 1pm. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1pm with the Rev. Kenneth Craddock officiating. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
