Betty Jane Treadaway
February 25, 1935 - February 28, 2025 (Age 90)
Betty was born on February 25, 1935 in Charlotte, NC. She graduated from Central High School and attended Charlotte College prior to transferring to Appalachian State Teachers College.
Betty was married for 62 years to James Olin Treadaway Sr., and together they had a son, James Olin Treadaway Jr.
Betty taught elementary school for 28 years at Derita Elementary and Olde Providence Elementary before her retirement in 1997.
She was a longtime member of Matthews United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Elizabeth Patrick Sunday School class.
Betty will be remembered as a passionate educator, as her love of teaching was evident. She believed in the importance of education. Many will also remember her as prayerful, kind, loving, and gentle.
In her free time, Betty loved to read and was a great encourager of others to enjoy a good book. She enjoyed history, especially North Carolina and United States history. She also loved her pets and spending time with her family. She took great pride in her role as a grandmother.
Betty is survived by her husband, Olin, her son, James Treadaway, Jr. and his wife Laura, and grandson, James Olin Treadaway III.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, March 8th, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227. Funeral Services will follow at 1:30 PM in the chapel. Betty will then be laid to rest at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Rd, Mint Hill, NC.
