Betty Ruth Koontz, 97, of Bedford, died on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at her residence. She was born on October 20, 1924, in Bedford, a daughter of the late James and Carrie (Smith) Henderson. On April 14, 1945, in Hollidaysburg, she married Allen P. Koontz who preceded her in death on September 3, 2017. She is survived by two daughters, Connie McGill and husband Dennis of Bedford; and Linda Carey and husband James of Trinity, FL; three grandchildren: Louis Dahl of Bedford, Stefanie Ritchey of Tarpon Springs, FL; Kari Howard and husband Victor of Land of Lakes, FL; step-granddaughter Traci Weyant and fiancée John Whitmore of Bedford; and one step-great-granddaughter Alexa of Bedford. She was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Phillip Dahl; three brothers: William, Jack, and James Henderson, and one sister Louise Dermer,
Betty was always a stay at home person but was very active with her church. She enjoyed cooking, watching sports and Nascar.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022, at 2:30 p.m., in the chapel, at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, with Pastor John Bennett officiating. Burial will be private. Friends will be received on Friday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Betty’s name to UPMC Family Hospice, 20 Sheraton Drive, Altoona, PA 16601.
