Betty Ruth Mason
July 13, 1920 - April 20, 2023 (Age 102)
Betty R. Mason of Zanesville, dearly loved by her family, left us on April 20, 2023 at the age of 102 to unite with her heavenly father, her beloved husband, and those she loved who have passed before her.
She was born on July 13, 1920 in Belmont, Ohio, a daughter of Wilson and Leota Jumps. She worked in the office of Montgomery Ward Co. where she retired in 1976. She was a member of the Rolling Plains Methodist Church and was a life member of the Muskingum Valley Boating Assoc. She loved playing cards, loved to read and enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles, but her most joyous moments were family gatherings where she loved to hear what was going on in everyone’s life and how everyone was doing.
She is survived by one daughter Sharon K. (Sonny) Quimby, three grandchildren Nonnie Williams-Abel (Odie), Marcie (Jason) Wilson, and Kurt Mason Collins; six great-grandchildren, Tristin Collins, Emily & Gracie Wilson, Sierra & Dawson Williams, and Seth Abel. One sister Mary Lucas of Bethesda, Ohio, a very special niece, Donna Malek, and several more nieces and nephews whom she thought so much of.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James A. Mason, whom she married November 22, 1945 and who died on September 29, 2001, a son Byron D. “Butch” Mason, two brothers Harry and Paul Jumps, and one sister June Medley, a special grandson-in-law Phillip Williams, and a very dear friend and long time neighbor Marge Kendall.
She was blessed to have had the most caring and loving caregivers in the home over the last five years of her life. The time they gave sharing their lives and keeping her up to date on what was going on in the world, keeping things lighthearted, letting her teach them the game of Stars and playing that card game every night, reading the Bible to her and sharing inspirational thoughts, and singing to her are just a few of the things the family lovingly acknowledges. In addition, the family wishes to thank the Area Agency on Aging for the program they provided and to Genesis Hospice and Morrison House for all their care and support.
Calling hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Sunday April 23, 2023 with service to follow at 1:30 p.m. at William Thompson & Son Funeral Home 5765 Gladstone Drive White Cottage with Pat Wiseman-Jones officiating. Burial will be in Zanesville Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Genesis Hospice or Area Agency on Aging.
