Bryon Craig Carter

October 26, 1962 - January 22, 2025 (Age 62)

Bryon Craig Carter, 62, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

Bryon was born on October 26, 1962, to the late William Lee Carter and Hilda Gray Young, in Charlotte, NC. He moved to the Rock Hill area in 1976, and graduated from Northwestern High School. Bryon also traveled to France for his studies while at Winthrop. While there, he rented a bike and toured much of the countryside. He was very involved in his early life at St. John’s United Methodist Church; especially in the Sockahachie and Walk to Emmaus events. Also in his early life, he enjoyed being a part of the Rock Hill Bicycle Club, playing guitar and did so for family, church and a prison ministry. He then joined FBC in 1998 and remained a strong member for the past 26 years and enjoyed attending Life and D groups. Bryon worked hard and for many years for a plastics company in Charlotte, NC. In his 35 years, he always considered himself “one of the workers” despite being given numerous “titles” that he would facetiously dismiss. He was a very hard worker and was willing to do any tasks, big or small, for the company. Bryon and his wife Dawn especially loved attending the Charlotte Checkers hockey games, where they have been season ticket holders since 2004.

Bryon is survived by his wife of 27 years, Dawn Howell Carter; his brother, William Glenn Carter (Melisa); his brother-in-law, Richard Howell (Ann); his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Allen and Nell Howell; his nieces and nephews, Alissa Lindsay, Josh Carter, Kyleigh Graves, Waylon Graves, Emma Carter and Will Howell; and his pets, Chloe and Riley.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church, 481 Hood Center Drive, Rock Hill, SC 29730. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday beginning at 1:00 PM. Burial will take place following the service at Grandview Memorial Park – Hollis Lakes, 401 Hollis Lakes Road, Rock Hill, SC, 29732.

Memorials may be made in Bryon’s name to the Children’s Attention Home, 1149 Edgemont Avenue, Rock Hill, SC 29730.
