Carl C. King

Carl Cecil King, 93, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday (July 22, 2026).

He was born June 12, 1933 in Derwent, son of the late Cecil King and Minnie (Sanderson) King.

A 1952 graduate of Buffalo High School, Carl spent more than twenty years with Meridian Plastics, where he served as the raw material and shipping supervisor.

For over forty years, he devoted himself to cattle farming, cherishing the annual gathering of friends and family who came together to help with the round-up.

Carl proudly served his country as a U.S. Army Medical Corpsman during the Korean War. During his enlistment, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Service Ribbon.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He found joy in hunting, fishing, and boating on Seneca Lake. He especially loved camping trips to Canada, where he spent peaceful days casting a line in the water.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings: Leona Hrinko, Leonard King, Nancy Phillis, and Carolyn Carpenter; and a son, Carl Jeffery King.

Carl is survived by his wife of seventy-three beautiful years, M. Elaine (Hammond) King, whom he married May 9, 1953; his dear son, Bruce (Trina) King of New Concord; his grandchildren: Travis King of Washington DC, Amanda (Luke) King-Buday of Monticello KY, and Aaron (Nichole) King of Cambridge; his five great-grandchildren: Alissa Buday, Addyson Buday, Alivia Buday, Blake King, and Hayden King; and several nieces & nephews, including a beloved nephew whom Carl held in his heart as a son, Sonny (Dee) King of Sebastian FL and Sonny's children: Stephanie (John) McCullough and Rusty (Brittany) King, and Sonny's grandchildren: Kimberlin (Morgan) Corbitt, Kyle McCullough, and Breanna (Justin) Leonard, and Sonny's great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Interim Healthcare of Coshocton and the Area Agency on Aging for the care they provided, as well as neighbors and friends that supported the family during Carl's illness.

Visitation will be held Tuesday (July 28, 2026) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Evan. Mark Beros officiating.

Burial will be at Guernsey County Memory Gardens, Cambridge, where full military honors will be accorded to Carl by the United States Army in conjunction with the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
