Carl Jacob Risch
March 26, 1933 - January 1, 2024 (Age 90)
Carl Jacob Risch, 90, of Bloomsburg died January 1, 2024. Carl was born March 26, 1933, in the Bloomsburg Hospital, the oldest son of the late Carl H. Risch and Louise May (Eisenhauer) Risch. Carl attended school in Orangeville, Espy, and Bloomsburg, and earned his GED Diploma while serving in the U.S. Navy in Europe.
He worked for TRW as a foreman in the Forge Shop and Heat Treat Department for 28 years and retired in 1993 with 37 years of service. Carl also worked as an orderly and ambulance driver for the Bloomsburg Hospital from 1956 to 1958.
Carl served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years, which included 2 years as a medic embedded with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a graduate of the Hospital Corpsman School in Virginia, and he was assigned to the 1st Marine Division and served 14 months in Korea. He received 6 commendation medals during his 4 years of service and was honorably discharged as a Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class.
He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting, and fishing, especially for walleye in the Susquehanna River. His favorite good time was watching his two granddaughters play on the swing, trapeze, and climbing ropes he made for them.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers Robert M. Risch, Lynwood Risch, and Wayne H. Risch, and one brother-in-law Russell Cox.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, the former Lenore G. Mensinger from Mifflinville, a son, Carl C. Risch, daughter in law Wendy, and two granddaughters, Anneke and Ilse, all of Washington, DC, and two sisters Beverly Hess of Danville and Shirley Cox of Fayetteville, NC.
Carl was a member of the TRW Old Guard retiree organization and served as Secretary Treasurer for over 20 years. He was also a member of the USS Corry and Tin Can Sailors Association.
A time of Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Street, Bloomsburg.
Funeral Services will begin on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. Dr. Lee Barnhardt, pastor of First English Baptist Church, officiating. Graveside committal services will immediately follow in Elan Memorial Park, Bloomsburg. Military honors will be provided by the combined American Legion and VFW Honor Guard. The Allen Funeral is honored to be serving the Risch family.
