Catherine Ann Armstrong
June 26, 1926 - August 26, 2023 (Age 97)
Catherine Ann Armstrong, 97, passed away peacefully August 26, 2023 at Allegany County Health and Rehab in Cumberland, Maryland. She was born in Cumberland June 26, 1926 to Mary and Cecil Dawson. Catherine graduated from Allegany High School in 1944. She married Jim Armstrong in Alabama August 5th of that same year when Jim was learning to fly for the Army Air Corp. Catherine worked for many years up until her retirement at Barton's Restaurant (The Cow) where she will be remembered fondly for being one of the best waitresses in town.
Catherine was an amazing woman loved by all who knew her. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. Catherine was always there to help when needed and showed her love by cooking and baking for friends and family. She was a lifelong member of the Rawlings United Methodist Church serving on numerous committees throughout the years. She was also active in various organizations including the local Homemakers Club, Red Hat Society, and TOPS where she made many friends.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of us all and she will be dearly missed.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 70 years, James Armstrong; her three brothers, John, Jim and Robert Dawson, and her sister Marylou Kendall. She is survived by her children Donna Snyder, husband Robert and James “Jimmy” Armstrong II; three grandchildren; Melissa Snyder (Tim Figueroa), Jennifer Croce (Clay Croce) and Teresa Kulish (Tom Kulish); and seven great-grandchildren: Kelsey, Timothy, Caylin, Gabriel, Caden, Olivia and Benjamin; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 31st from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown, MD.
A funeral service will take place Friday, September 1st at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Merle Correll officiating, visitation will take place one hour prior to service.
Internment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale, MD.
