RIDGELEY, WV – Catherine N. (Ritchie) “Cathy” “Nan” Shaffer, 82, of Ridgeley, WV, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2023, at her daughter’s home.
Born May 14, 1941, in Ridgeley, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Agnes (Smith) Ritchie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold Thornton “Butch” Shaffer, Jr.; brothers-in-law, John Shaffer and Dale Shaffer; sister-in-law, Zinnie Metz.
Cathy was a graduate of Ridgeley High School. She adored children, and her grandchildren looked forward to spending the day at “Nanny’s Daycare.” Cathy was a member of St. Mark’s Community Church, where her husband was pastor for 33 years. She taught Sunday school and assisted with the church nursery. In her spare time, Cathy was an avid reader.
Cathy leaves behind her children, Debbie Hochard and husband Harry, Mark Shaffer and wife Karen, Harold “Chip” Shaffer and wife Paula, Jill Parks and husband Ben, Kelsey Soules and husband Darrell; grandchildren, Kayla, Mark Jr., Brandi, Cody, Dalton, Devin, Laikyn, Samara, Mykayla, and Alice; step-granddaughter, Brittany; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Carol McFarland and husband Jack; siblings-in-law, Charlotte Santmyire and husband Ernie, Bill Metz, Diane Shaffer, Greg Shaffer and wife Margie, and Pat Shaffer.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Friday, December 29, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastors Michelle White and Tom Lantz officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
