Charles E. Hill

October 18, 1936 – July 27, 2026 (Age 89)

Charles Everette Hill Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and devoted family man, went to be with his Lord on Monday, July 27, 2026, at the age of 89 while in hospice care at Clear Creek Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Mint Hill, NC.

Born in Mecklenburg County on October 18, 1936, to Charles Hill Sr. and Eunice Hill, Charles answered the call to serve his country at the young age of 17 by enlisting in the U.S. Navy. During his time as a sailor, he traveled to ports all across the world. He proudly carried these global adventures and his service to the country with him throughout his life, often noting that some of his fondest memories were of his time on the open seas.

Beyond his military service, Charles was widely known for his vibrant personality and his deep passion for Country & Western music. A talented guitar player, he brought joy to many through his performances at local venues, senior citizens' homes, and private parties. He even shared his musical talents on local television broadcasts. Affectionately known to many as "Cowboy Charlie," he spent years recording tapes and CDs of his music, loving nothing more than giving them away so that others could share in the joy of his songs.

After completing his service in the Navy, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Ann Crump, on June 24, 1959. Together, they built a life centered around devotion to one another and their three children. Earlier in his life, he enjoyed hunting arrowheads with his brother-in-law and son. For a while, he and his brothers even served on the pit crew of his cousin Bobbie Reid’s racing team. An avid shooter, Charlie also enjoyed target shooting and spent many an hour at his target range.

Above all else, Charlie’s heart belonged to his family. A dedicated provider, Charles worked for over 20 years at the A&P meatpacking warehouse in Charlotte, several years at Crosland Commercial, and another two decades for Lincoln Harris, continuing to work hard well into his later years to support his family and grandchildren until he was 78 years old.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Charles E. Hill Sr. and Eunice; his brothers, Eugene (Joe), Ronald (Tub), and Dean Hill; his sister, Wanda Hill; his daughter, Deborah (Debbie) Wilson; and his stillborn son, Eddie Hill.

He is survived by his loving son, Richard (Jeannine) Hill Sr.; four cherished grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, who will forever carry forward his legacy of hard work, music, and deep familial love. He is further survived by his church family at Wilson Grove Baptist Church, of which he was a faithful member, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Charlie’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for him and for them. Services will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, July 28, at Wilson Grove Baptist Church, 6624 Wilgrove Mint Hill Rd, Mint Hill, NC 28227, with visitation from 9:30 until time of service. Interment to follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
