Charles Howell III

March 15, 1938 – March 20, 2026 (Age 88)

Charles “Dixie” Henry Howell III passed away surrounded by the same love, laughter, and storytelling that defined his life. Dixie was truly one of a kind—a larger-than-life presence who could turn any stranger into a friend within minutes. He was kind, gentle, and full of humor, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. A proud graduate of Franklin University and former member of its basketball team, Dixie dedicated many years to his work and community. He retired after 25 years with AEP and then went on to work at the Franklin County Board of Elections. He proudly served for over 30 years as a “Stadium Red Coat” at Ohio State football games. He was also a talented handyman, woodworker, softball umpire, and girls’ softball coach at St. Leo’s. Above all, Dixie loved his family deeply. His children and grandchildren were his everything, and he carried immense pride and joy in being part of their lives. He will be remembered as a friend to all and will be missed more than words can express. Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with a service at 1:00 PM at Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home 650 W.
