Clyde Stout

Clyde “Butch” Raymond Stout, 80, of Whitehall, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026.

Born October 29, 1945, in Zanesville, Ohio, Clyde lived a life defined by service to his country, devotion to his family, friendship, and a love of the outdoors.

Clyde proudly served his country in two branches of the United States military. He served as a United States Marine during the Vietnam War and later served in the United States Air Force during the Gulf War. His dedication to his country was an important part of the life he lived and the legacy he leaves behind.

Above all else, Clyde was a devoted family man. He shared 50 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Barbara Rockefeller Stout, and was deeply devoted to her and to the family they built together. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

Clyde had a passion for fishing that was impossible to miss. He loved being on the water, out on the boat, and, of course, fishing. Whether he was casting a line, enjoying a day on the boat, or sitting down for a good game of euchre, he was happiest doing the things he loved with good company nearby. Fishing was more than a hobby for Clyde—it was one of the great joys of his life.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Barbara Rockefeller Stout; his children, Mary (Thomas) Ore, Deana (Mike) Ore, and Cynthia Sharfin; his grandchildren, Cord Seitzinger, Cody (Karrie) Ward, Meagan (Antonio) Hernandez, Kyle Ward, Aaron (Kaitlyn) Scherker, John King, and Adam (Brooke) Scherker; his 10 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Janet Stout Whitt, Suzan Koester, Esther (Al) Hartman, and Cynthia Varn; and many nieces and nephews.

He also leaves behind several honorary children who had the privilege of knowing him from childhood and the honor of calling him “Dad”—a testament to the love, kindness, and place he held in the lives of so many people beyond his immediate family.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Hencel (Ethel) Stout and Marcella Summers Koester; his siblings, Justice Koester Jr., Dale Stout, and Linda Stout Gatwood; and his first wife, Karen Lucille Stout.

His memory will live on in the stories shared around family gatherings, the memories made on the water, the lessons passed down to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and in the many lives he touched throughout his 80 years.

He will be deeply loved, forever remembered, and profoundly missed.
