Crayton A. Griffin

Crayton Alexander Griffin, age 89, of Mint Hill, North Carolina, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday July 9th, 2026, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminster, after a brief illness.

Born and raised in Marshville, North Carolina, Crayton learned the value of hard work at an early age. He helped work and care for the family farm and delivered dairy milk to Carnation. In the 1950s, he moved to Charlotte, where he began working at McEwen Funeral Home Morehead. It was there that one of his best friends introduced him to the love of his life, beginning a beautiful journey that would span nearly 66 years of marriage, that led them to Mint Hill, NC.

Crayton proudly served his country in the Army National Guard for 6 years before dedicating 27 years of service to Western Electric. After retiring, he never slowed down. Alongside his brother, Johnny, he founded Griffin Builders, where together they built the Eaglecrest housing development in Stallings, North Carolina, turning his lifelong passion for craftsmanship into a second career.

A gifted carpenter with a servant’s heart, Crayton could build just about anything. Whether he was constructing homes, crafting wooden boxes, building playhouses for his grandchildren, or insulating dog houses to keep beloved pets warm, he found joy in working with his hands and creating something that would bless others.

Following retirement, his greatest joy became spending time with his family. Nothing delighted him more than cheering on his grandchildren at every special event, making memories with his great-grandson, taking his 1957 Bel air to car shows with his family, riding his Kubota tractor, or mowing the yard on his Scag lawnmower. His family was his greatest treasure, and there was nowhere he would rather be than surrounded by those he loved.

Crayton faithfully served as a member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church for 59 years. His steadfast faith in Jesus Christ guided his life, and he lived as a quiet example of humility, kindness, hard work, and devotion to his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ingram Griffin and Blair Griffin; his sister, Louise Griffin; and his brother, Johnny Griffin.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of almost 66 years, Betty Kiser Griffin, of the home; his daughters, Cindy Griffin (Russell) of Mint Hill, NC, and Jennifer Griffin Hensley (Jeff) of Union Mills, NC; not his by birth but a daughter by love and heart Danielle Flowe (Scottie) of Matthews, NC.

His granddaughter, Jessica Pettit (Colby) of Spindale, NC; his grandson, Jesse Hensley (Morgan) of Rutherfordton, NC; and his precious great-grandson, Cooper Pettit, who was truly the apple of his eye. Among those he loved dearly were Kaleb, Koda and Kyndal Flowe who were like grandchildren to him. They were always eager to lend a helping hand around the house, and the time they shared together brought him endless smiles and lasting happiness.

He is also survived by; his sister-in-law, Barbara Griffin of Stallings, NC and brother-in-law, Dan Kiser of Forest City, NC along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who were blessed by his life. And his beloved dog, Spot.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has prayed, visited, offered support, and shown such incredible love during these difficult days. Your kindness and compassion have been a great source of strength and comfort.

A celebration of Crayton’s life will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church, 2817 Mt. Harmony Church Road in Matthews, NC 28105 with Rev. Scottie Flowe and Rev. Daniel Royster officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:45 on Thursday prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens 8901 Lawyers Road Mint Hill, NC 28227

Though our hearts are broken, we rejoice in knowing that Pawpaw is now healed, whole, and at peace in the presence of his Savior. His legacy of faith, love, integrity, hard work, and unwavering devotion to his family will continue to live on for generations to come.
