Dale Richard Riley Sr.

July 16, 1934 - May 13, 2025 (Age 90)

Dale Richard Riley, 90, of Cumberland, formerly of Mexico Farms, MD, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Allegany Health Nursing and Rehab.

Born July 16, 1934, in Fort Ashby, WV, he was a son of the late Helen Brown. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert “Bobby” and wife Malda, Thomas “Tuck” and wife Wanda; sister, Mary Jane Phillips and husband Norman; brothers-in-law, Luther Shryock and wife Aletha, Harry Shryock and wife Barbara; sisters-in-law, Garland Athey and Norma Shryock.

Dale began his working career at Fairchild in Hagerstown, MD. He and Martha then moved to Flintstone, MD, and Dale began work at RPS, Inc. as a salesman of auto parts. He retired from Automotive Supply, Cumberland, MD.

He was a member of Davis Memorial Global Church.

Dale is survived by his wife of 72 years, Martha Geneva (Shryock) Riley; children, J. Dalene Vollmerhausen and husband Robert, Short Gap, WV, and Dale Richard Riley II and wife Jennifer, Cumberland; grandchildren, Corey Fair and wife Katlyn, Short Gap, WV, Robert III “Bo” Vollmerhausen and fiancee Christina, Ridgecrest, CA, Phoebe and Jay Riley; great-granddaughter, Finnley Grace Fair; brothers, Edward Riley and wife Janet, Fort Ashby, WV, Roger Brown and wife Sheryl, Fort Ashby; brothers-in-law, William Athey, Cumberland, Wakeman Shryock, Hagerstown; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Appel and husband Gary, Oldtown, Kay Riley, Short Gap; many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Monday, May 19, 2025 from 11am to 1pm. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1pm with Pastor Quentin Simpson officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Dale Riley II, Jay Riley, Phoebe Riley, Corey Fair, Blair Simpson, and Rusty Riley.
