Darlene Elizabeth Bridges
November 18, 1953 - February 9, 2025 (Age 71)
ELLERSLIE – Darlene Elizabeth (Donahue) Bridges, 71, of Ellerslie, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025, at UPMC Western Maryland.
Born November 18, 1953, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Emma E. (Burkett) Donahue and Joseph J. Donahue. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her uncle, Louis Donahue, as well as a number of other uncles and aunts.
Darlene was a graduate of Mount Savage High School, and she went on to attend Catherman’s Business School. She was a homemaker for most of her life until she became a Certified Nursing Assistant at HRDC in Cumberland. Eventually she took a position as a CNA/Driver at the Cumberland Covenant House.
She absolutely loved sitting on her front porch with her dad. Also, tending to her flowers gave her much joy. She was a wonderful cook and loved cooking for her family, but she never missed a chance to go out to eat with her friends or son. Shopping at the Dollar General and Kohl’s was always a stress release for her. Going down to the Ellerslie Post Office was something she looked forward to each weekday morning. She also enjoyed relaxing in front of the television watching her favorite shows like The Andy Griffith Show, The Rifleman, her Saturday Westerns, and of course QVC.
She had many special friends in her life that she thought the world of – Pete Burley, Joy Cowgill, Carolyn Huff, Shirley Jackson, Lori Kyle, and Diana Stott.
Darlene leaves behind to cherish her memory, her beloved son, Joseph W. Bridges, of Ellerslie; uncle, Jake Donahue; and a number of cousins.
Her son would like to thank her care team – Dr. Jose Loveria, Dr. Olatunde, Dr. Janjua, and Dr. Mareedu. Also, thank you to Chaplains Rusty Kitzmiller, David Mullenex, and Pastor Bruce for all your prayers. Thanks to all the nurses in Dialysis and a big thank-you to Greg, Skeeter, and Joyce in Transport who helped her all these years.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 from 11am to 1pm. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1pm with Rev. Ken Korns officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
