Darlene Kirk
January 7, 1939 - June 17, 2025 (Age 86)
Darlene Lorraine (Hiett) Kirk, of LaVale, died Tuesday, June 17, 2025. Born January 7, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Nora (Browning) Hiett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; son, Rob; and daughter, Susan; and her brother, Charley Hiett.
Darlene grew up in Short Gap, West Virginia, and graduated in 1956 from Fort Ashby High School. In 1959, she graduated from the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a pediatric nurse at Memorial Hospital until deciding to stay home to raise and care for her children.
Darlene was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. The only thing as strong as her faith was the love she had for her family and friends, whom she considered her most cherished possessions.
For nearly 50 years of Bob’s basketball coaching career, Darlene could be seen in the stands cheering for Mount Savage Indians and later the ACC Trojans. She often told him he had her support “win, lose or draw.”
Darlene loved to make the holidays special for everyone and was known for the beautiful Christmas decorations throughout her home. She enjoyed family gatherings and trips to the beach, where she could most often be found looking for shells or reading a good book. For many years, she looked forward to monthly nurses’ lunches with the “girls”, her lifelong friends.
She is survived be her son Jeff Kirk and wife Tracy and grandsons, JT Kirk and James Kirk and wife, Nicole. She is also survived by her brother and sister in laws; as well as several nieces and nephews.
