Darrel Sauter
June 2, 1932 - January 29, 2022 (Age 89)
Darrell Sauter, 89, of Osterburg, went to his eternal home with the Lord Jesus Christ upon his death of a stroke at UPMC Altoona on Saturday, January 29, 2022.
Darrell was born on June 2, 1932, in Temperance, Michigan; son of the late, Ernest and Nellie (McDonald) Sauter.
On October 4, 1952, he married Darlene (Joyce) Clark on her sixteenth birthday. They were blessed to almost have 70 years together.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Byron, Ivis, Audrey (Feathers) Sauter, and brother, Alton.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene at home; 4 children, Joyce (Duane) Cleveland of Bedford; Cathy (Bob) Foor of East Freedom; Terry Sauter of Osterburg; and Thomas (Beverly) Sauter of New Paris; 6 grandchildren, Matt (Charity) Foor of New Paris; Derrick Cleveland of Bedford; Adam Foor of Claysburg; Tara Cleveland of Clarksville, TN; Christopher Sauter and Brittney Sauter of New Paris; 5 great-grandchildren, Samantha, Harley, Meeka, Dalton, and Rylie; and sister, Janice and her loving husband Jesse Zumstein of Woodbury.
Darrell was a very hard worker. He worked for 18 years for Harold Claycomb on his sawmill. He later worked for Hedstrom in Bedford for 25 years where he retired from. He spent a lot of time working outside in his large garden. Darrell had many animals over the years. He raised beef cattle, goats, pigs, rabbits, guinea pigs, and homing pigeons that he got started on with his beloved brother Byron who was killed in France in WWII. In his later years, he had a small dog “Skippy” that he was very attached to. He also loved to go deer hunting with his sons, Terry and Thomas. He loved country music, especially Merle Haggard and his favorite, Bill Monroe. He always made sure he had a working radio in his cars to listen to Country music.
Darrell and Darlene were members of the Weyant United Methodist Church for over 50 years. They sang in the church choir for many years. Darrell was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was always there to help if someone needed a helping hand. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Family members and relatives will be welcome to a short graveside service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Bedford County Memorial Park.
