Dennis Witmer Sr.

March 25, 1951 - April 2, 2024 (Age 73)

Dennis J. “Denny” Witmer, Sr., 73, of New Providence, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Shirley A. (Flora) Witmer, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Amos G. Witmer and Mary E. (Henry) Warner.

Denny was a graduate of Solanco High School, class of 1970. Following high school, he attended the Willow Street Vo-Tech to study HVAC. Denny went on to have a career in industrial maintenance, working for Herr Pump Company, Frank Ix & Sons, Inc./Mirarobles, Inc., and most recently for Keystone Weaving, where he retired as a maintenance supervisor.

Denny was known for being able to work on many different things, such as electrical wiring, HVAC, and automobiles, performing both mechanical and body repairs. In his spare time, he enjoyed going fishing and going on cruises. He was also an avid fan of WWE. Denny attended New Providence Church of God.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons, Dennis James “DJ” Witmer, Jr., husband of John David Brunson, of Middletown, DE, and Michael Witmer, of New Providence; grandchildren, Danielle Witmer, fiancée of Caleb Pousima, Chad Witmer, and Davin Caldwell; brothers, Kenneth E. Witmer, of Holtwood, and James A. Witmer, of Mountville; a stepbrother, Richard Warner, Jr., husband of Cindi, of Arkansas; and a step-sister, Marianne Gerlach, wife of Jeff, of Millersville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepfather, Richard R. Warner, Sr.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Dewald Funeral & Cremation Services, 227 West 4th Street, Quarryville, PA 17566 with Pastor Dwight Lefever officiating. There will be a viewing at the funeral home from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Riverview Burial Park, Lancaster.
