Dolores I. Backes

Dolores I. Backes, 89, of Greensburg, died Sunday, May 23, 2021 in Newhaven Court, Greensburg. She was born January 22, 1932 in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Atillio and Maria (Ciconni) Narduzzi. Prior to retirement she had been employed by McDowell Associates, Greensburg. Dolores loved to sew, quilt and crochet. She also loved her cats, traveling, shopping, and going to polka dances. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack E. Backes; and her sister, Diane Campbell. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Cortese (Michael), of Greensburg; two grandchildren, Anthony Cortese (Amanda), of New Hampshire, and Catherine McConnell (Christopher), of Hunker; her great-grandson, Finley McConnell; three sisters, Jane Lawrence, of Florida, Nancy Ulishney (Mike), of Latrobe, and Linda Santone, of Jeannette; several nieces and nephews; and her special friend, George Mayer, of Delmont. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg. A funeral liturgy will begin at 11 AM Thursday in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
