Donald Lee Painter

May 22, 1958 - August 7, 2021 (Age 63)

Donald Lee Painter, 63, of Cumberland died on August 7, 2021 with his family by his side after a long battle with cancer. He was born on May 22, 1958 to the late Ernest E. Painter and Betty L. (McDonald) Painter.

Donnie was a 1976 graduate of Fort Hill High School, where he was a trainer for the football team, participated in many clubs, and continued supporting the team for the rest of his life. After high school he went on to get a bachelor’s degree in nursing and focused on mental health treatment. He then worked as a nurse at the Brandenberg Center, and then continued to care for children with special needs at Cash Valley Elementary School, and finally he worked at the Massey Unit.

He would often be found at Oscar’s Restaurant with his best friends at table five. Every year, Donnie would travel to Ocean City with his friends for a fun time at the beach. Time spent with his friends was full of laughter. He was a man of style and class – always dressed to the hilt, even down to his jewelry. Music was a huge part of Donnie’s life, and he loved going to concerts. He was a happy person who truly cared about others.

Surviving are his children, Cory Painter of Cumberland, Justin Painter and wife Erin of McHenry, MD, and Sara Rice of Cumberland; a brother, James Kim Painter and wife Ruthie of Cumberland; sister, Ava Jo Jones and husband Forrest of Short Gap, WV; sister, Marcie Painter Smith of West Virginia; nine grandchildren, Emma, Lilee, Rylee, Alexis “Zack”, Lilianna, Victoria, Westyn, Kentyn, and Macklyn; ex-wife Robin Gallagher; many nieces, nephews, a large extended family, and countless friends.

Friends will be received on Thursday, August 12, 2021, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland. A memorial service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. with best friend, Mike Hast, officiating.

Inurnment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
