Donna Lee Lattimer
March 19, 1934 - September 20, 2023 (Age 89)
CUMBERLAND – Donna Lee Lattimer, 89, of Cumberland, MD, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Cumberland Healthcare Center. Born March 19, 1934, in Pittsburgh, PA, Mrs. Lattimer was the daughter of the late John Chalmer Cochenour and Alice (Zimmerman) Cochenour. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Lattimer; one brother, Curt Cochenour; her sister, Arlene Perrell; and her beloved dog, Smoky.
Donna was a 1952 graduate of Allegany High School and a 1956 graduate of University of Maryland. In her earlier years, she worked as a librarian and a substitute teacher in Allegany County. She retired from the Cumberland Times-News after 20 years in the classifieds department.
Donna became an avid Fort Hill football fan in 1958 when her husband, Charles Lattimer, became the head coach. She continued that for many years including those when her son, Barry Lattimer, was the head coach. She and her sister were vocal and enthusiastic fans in Section D. As her health declined and her sister passed, she had to listen to the games on the radio.
Donna enjoyed monthly lunches with her classmates and friends. She was a woman of great faith and spent many years worshiping at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cumberland. She cherished her time there forming strong friendships and sharing fellowship with the members of the congregation.
Donna is survived by her son, Barry Edward Lattimer and wife, Sara, Cumberland; her daughter, Kim Elaine Lattimer and husband, Joe, Leigh Acres, FL; her granddaughter, Shelly Lee Shields and husband, Matthew, Cumberland; her great grandson, Raymond Matthew Shields; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Gene Bender, her wonderful neighbor, for maintaining her property in all seasons and being a lifelong friend. They would also like to thank the staff and caretakers at Cumberland Healthcare Center.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Monday, September 25, 2023, from 4-7pm. A memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at 11am. Inurnment in Restlawn Memorial Gardens will be private.
