Doris Lee Livengood

Doris Lee (White) Livengood of Cumberland, Maryland, 95, passed away on February 25, 2025 in Lancaster, VA, at her daughter, Sandra’s home. She lived in Cumberland for 92 years before moving to Virginia in 2021 to live near her daughter, Sandra Armstrong, and husband, William.
Doris was born in Cumberland, Maryland, on November 22, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Harper J. and Clara M. (Baker) White. She was married to her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, former Cumberland Fire Chief, Russell L. Livengood, Jr., for 63 years until his passing in 2013.
She is also predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie M. Lewis (Ronald); brother and sister-in-law, James H. White (Regina); half sister, Josephine (White) Lambert; brother-in-law Ronald (Jack) and Patrica Livengood; grandson, Gregg Miller; nephew, Eric Livengood; and nephew, James H. White, Jr.
Doris graduated from Allegany High School in the class of 1947. Over the years, she remained active with her graduating class helping to organize all of their class reunions. After graduation, she was employed at the Social Services Board for a few years before beginning a 34-year career at Sacred Heart Hospital. She was an executive medical secretary for 32 years in the radiology department. During her last several years at Sacred Heart, she developed and managed the Pastoral Care Department.
Doris was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Cumberland. Over the years, Doris was a member of the Board of Trustees, Finance Committee, choir, youth and Sunday School teacher, Girls Auxiliary leader, and church recorder. At the time of her death, she was the oldest and longest serving member of the church. Doris began attending the church as an infant and remained a contributing member until her passing.
After retirement, Doris volunteered for many years at the Allegany Museum. She was also a member of Tri-State Women for Christ and served on the first Auxiliary for the Union Rescue Mission which was a very important ministry to her.
Doris loved spending time with her family. She and her husband, Russell, never missed a family event or the opportunity to help them in any way. She was faithful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt.
Doris leaves behind a large extended family. She is survived by her daughters, Carole Livengood of Clemmons, N.C., and her children, C. Scott Miller (wife Cass) and Angela McNall (husband Dave) of Washoe Valley, NV.; and daughter, Sandra L. Armstrong (husband Bill) of Lancaster, VA, and their son Daniel (wife Kathryn) of Kilmarnock, VA. In addition to her daughters and grandchildren, Doris is survived by her sister-in-law, Shirley Geary of Cumberland, Maryland, whose husband, Glenn Geary, passed just 5 hours after Doris’ passing. Doris also leaves behind 11 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 P.M. with Pastor Randall Larry officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be: Scott Miller, Daniel Armstrong, Jeremy Irons, Dylan Irons, Dave White, and Mark Sullivan.
