Dorothy Peterman

Dorothy L. “Dot” Peterman, age 105, of North Huntingdon, died Friday, March 8, 2024. She was born December 1, 1918 in Leechburg, a daughter of the late John T. and Ruth (Dainty) Mack and was also preceded in death by her husband James E. Peterman and her sisters Jean Schaefer and Virginia Held. Dot graduated from Children’s Hospital Nursing School and worked as a registered nurse at Magee and Children’s Hospitals and also at the Allegheny Ludlum Steel Plant in Leechburg. She was a longtime very active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Irwin, and a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Irwin Chapter 400. She was a volunteer for Meals On Wheels, enjoyed many years of card club, and loved watching the Pirates. She loved playing the organ and participated in a recital with 24 organs in Greensburg and Pittsburgh. She was an excellent baker who started her holiday baking in October so she could give cookies to the neighbors around the holidays. She made the best sour cherry pies. She is survived by her daughters Bonnie McConnell and her husband Orville of North Huntingdon and Dr. Judith Peterman of Lee, MA. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the William Snyder Funeral Home, 521 Main St., Irwin, 724-863-1200. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Sarah Lee Faulkner, officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Penn Lincoln Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers a contribution can be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Main St., Irwin, PA 15642.
