Durville W. Murray Jr.

Durville "Buddy" Murray, 88, of Stanfield, North Carolina passed away October, 14, 2026 in his home surrounded by his family.
Buddy was born on January 9, 1938 in Lynchburg, Virginia to the late Carrie Pierce Murray and Durville Murray. He graduated from Central High School in Charlotte and then joined the Air Force at 19 years old. He served for four years active duty followed by two years in the reserves as a radar specialist. Most of his career was spent at R.L. Stowe Mills and retired as a Manager of the Warehouse.
Buddy was a member of the Mecklenburg Shriners Club, Universal Cotton Standards Advisory Committee, as well as the Boy Scouts. He was a golfer as well, attending Eastwood Golf Course for many years. He won the Charlotte Senior Amateur Golf Tournament 2 years in a row and his highest golf achievement being that he shot a 59.
Buddy is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sue Murray, and his children Dawn Mize (Les), Pam Macomber (Rich), David Spooner (Michelle), Jennifer Robertson (Billy). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Fred Murray.
The family will receive friends on October 19 at 10 AM. A memorial service will be held at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Locust on October 19, 2026 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens.
