Edward B. Zalevskiy

August 28, 1951 - December 9, 2022 (Age 71)

Edward Zalevskiy was born August 28, 1951, in Urzhar, Kazakhstan. He was the beloved and late son of Bronislav Alexandrovich and Vera Alexandrovna Zalevskiy. He is survived by his wife, Anna Zalevskiy, his brother, Vitaly, his sister Luba, his four children: Sergey, Vladislav, Ludmila, and Julia, and his grandchildren: Zoya, Jack, Vasily, Mathew, Elizabeth & Leo. Edward went home to be with the Lord on December 9, 2022, in Columbia, South Carolina.

Edward was educated in the Institute of Kyiv where he earned two bachelor’s degrees in the 70’s. He lived in Ukraine until age 40. Then in 1990 he moved to the States where he and his brother opened a shoe repair business in Pineville, North Carolina. In 2004, Edward and his family moved to Columbia, South Carolina where he lived until his passing.

Edward will always be remembered for his loveliness. He was truly what a man ought to be. Kind, strong, hardworking, even tempered, loving, and most of all, a Christian. He was a caring husband, a loving father, always sure to thoroughly dote on his children. He would always call and check in with those he loved. No matter if it was his daughter away at college or some distant relative. Always reaching out and finding ways to display his affection for he truly was so kind. Edward loved many things in this life. He loved the outdoors, any type of sport, whether it be hockey, skiing, or football. He loved art and had a great appreciation for those who could curate it. He loved to travel, he loved to fish… he loved to fish. He loved the ocean, and he loved his family. He loved to work, and he loved to joke. Although his presence is lacking, Edik’s jokes will forever live in the hearts and lives of all who knew and loved him.

But most of all, Edik loved the Lord. “With the kind You show Yourself kind; With the blameless You show Yourself blameless; With the pure You show Yourself pure, and with the crooked You show Yourself astute.” Psalm 18:25-26 He often said, “I stand before the Lord with a pure heart.” All those around him could see the fruits of his faith in the way in which he carried himself. The way in which he spoke, how he responded. The way in which he prayed, the way in which he loved. The way in which he loved his family, and the way in which he led them – faithfully, unto the Lord – and with the strength and courage that a god-fearing and honoring man would.

Though Edward is no longer with us, his quiet smile and even voice still reverberate loudly in our ears and hearts. A verse was always on his lips, always reminding himself and those around him what Scripture says regarding this life.

May we praise our Lord and Savior, for the blessing that Edward was in all our lives. May we celebrate his life, and praise and bless our Lord in his death. “For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”

Edward’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for him and for them. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC 28105, beginning at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 17, 2022. Services will then begin at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Following the service, Edward will be taken in procession to his final place of rest at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Charlotte, NC 28227.

As Edward loved family gatherings and good food, all are invited after the service to the Baptist Church of Salvation, 1924 Marglyn Drive, Matthews, NC 28105. There, a meal and gathering will be held in Edward’s honor beginning at 2:30 PM.
