Edward Lavis

Edward Lavis, of New Stanton, and Lantana, Fla., died unexpectedly Monday, May, 2, 2022, in Lantana, Fla. He grew up in Jeannette and graduated from Jeannette Senior High School, Class of 1969. He then worked in the aviation field as a flight instructor and then commercial pilot, flying for several local corporations such as Special Jet at Allegheny County Airport and Fetterolf Group in Latrobe and Somerset airports. He even flew for Arnold Palmer on occasion. He then flew for Allegheny Airline/USAirways/American Airlines for 37 years, ending his aviation career as a Boeing 757/ 767 International Captain. He enjoyed golfing locally first as a member at Hannastown Country Club, then at Greensburg Country Club for many years and he was a club member in several south Florida golf clubs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anna Lavis; and a brother, Joseph, of Jeannette. He is survived by his wife, Christine (Moore) Lavis, of Jeannette; his three sisters, Ann Berlin, of Greensburg, Arlene Glunt, of Export, and Marion Mefferd, of Tacoma, Wash.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A celebration of life gathering will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Olde Spitfire Grille (upper level), 1517 Broad St., Greensburg, PA 15601. All friends welcome.
