Edward Merton Cook Sr.

Cumberland, MD – Edward Merton Cook, Sr., 90, of Cumberland, MD, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Devlin Manor Healthcare Center.

Born September 6, 1933, in Washington, D.C., Mr. Cook was the son of the late Cyrus Merton Cook and Cleda (Shires) Cook. He was also preceded in death by an infant brother.

Ed was an electrician for M&L Electrical Construction in Lancaster, PA, and previously worked at P.P.G. He was a Pastor at Never Sink Valley Baptist Church in New York and Washington Burrough Baptist Church in Pennsylvania. Ed was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Frostburg, where he served as a Deacon. He was a great man, who was a good listener, and who truly enjoyed being in nature watching its splendor. Ed was a Graduate of Allegany High School where he participated in the band and ran track, having won a medal at states.

Ed is survived by his wife of 73 years, two months, and eight days: Frances L. Cook, four children: Susan Jane Cook, Edward M. Cook, Jr. and wife, Lisa, Alan Scott Cook, and Teresa Ann Sebring and husband, Matt; seven grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Thursday, October 26, 2023, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

A funeral service will be conducted at Faith Baptist Church, 301 Shaw Street, Frostburg, MD, on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Larry Burkholder officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Allegany County Animal Shelter, 716 Furnace Street, Cumberland, MD, in Ed’s name
