Elizabeth Shirk

Elizabeth A. Shirk, 79, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, February 24, 2024. Betty was born in Lancaster and was the daughter of the late Leo P. and Elizabeth Goebel Nikolaus. She was married to James R. Shirk for 59 years.

Betty graduated from Lancaster Catholic HS and went on to work in retail at Watt & Shand and JCPenney. She had many interests including playing cards with family and friends, reading her Kindle and going out for breakfast. She was a regular attendee at the American Music Theatre, enjoying all live music, but especially the oldies artists.

Betty was known for her love of children, her kindheartedness, and her generosity. She was a member of St. Leo’s the Great Catholic Church in Lancaster.

In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by her son, Andrew J. Shirk (Michelle Smith) of East Petersburg; her brother, Leo P. Nikolaus (Wanda) of Lancaster, her sister, Kathleen Laudenberger (Michael) of Millersville and a brother-in-law, Michael P. Judge of Mount Joy. She was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Judge.

Family and friends are invited to Betty’s Funeral Service at The Groffs Family Funeral Home, 528 W. Orange Street, Lancaster on Monday, March 4, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. with Deacon Frank A. Kuchinski officiating. A Viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Betty will be privately interred at Riverview Burial Park in Lancaster.
