Ellen Hapchuk

December 25, 1931 - April 8, 2022 (Age 90)

Ellen Irene Wallace Hapchuk, 90 years old, of Greensburg, was awarded her wings on April 8th, 2022 and joined her late husband George and son Dennis in a joyous heavenly reunion. She was born December 25, 1931, the daughter of the late Jacob and Bessie Lauffer Wallace, and grew up in McCullough.

She was born during the great depression when times were tough. Ellen met her husband George when she was just 14 years old, a little blonde haired girl that was fascinated by a septic tank hauler. She left a deep impression on him and four years they ran away to Frostburg, Maryland and were married. She then joined that business of

Hapchuk Sanitation Co. and became the office manager.

As their love grew, so did their family. They had four children that became the center of her world. She had an unconditional love and pride for them, the grandchildren, and great grandchildren that followed. She always put her family first.

Years later, when they were solid with the business, they started to have some relaxing time together as they learned how to dance at Joe Poerio's Dance Studio. Eventually, they became ballroom instructors as well. They engulfed a circle of friends and enjoyed going to polka festivals and dances.

She took a lot of pride in her cooking, baking and canning, especially her famous pies, pirogies, and kolaches. Her holiday tables had a perfect presentation reflecting the warmth of home and family. She always had a smile on her face, and at any time you could drop in on her and within minutes she would have dessert, coffee, and a

lending ear ready. She had a zestful love of life and gave of herself freely.

She was a NRA instructor and conducted hunter safety courses on their farm. She especially loved trips to Lake

Erie, where she spent a lot of time as a young girl. She enjoyed flea markets and auctions.

Every spring she looked forward to when her husband walked up on the hill to the orchard he planted and he would pick her daffodils, tulips and bluebells. Her grandson Jacob, has kept up this tradition, even into her last days, keeping a smile on her face.

She is survived by her children, daughter Loretta Howard and partner Carter Quirey of Texas, son George Hapchuk and wife Ellen of Greensburg, and daughter Loraine Hapchuk of Greensburg. She was preceded in death by her son Dennis Hapchuk in 1986, and great granddaughter, Avery Grace Howell in 2017. She proudly

has seven grandchildren, April Stoup and husband Chad, Jacob Hapchuk, Adrianne Watkiss and her husband Chris, Nina Hapchuk and her partner Jessie Roscosky, Katie Howell and her husband Matt, Emily Hapchuk and her partner Tyler Proudfit, and Jason Hapchuk.

She's also very proud to have 8 great grandchildren, Haley, Keona, Elly, Isaac, Reily, Lydia, Christian and Mia.

She is survived by a brother Dave Wallace and wife Carol of Youngwood, and a sister Sarah Oplinger of Texas.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Ramsey, Henry, Russell, Joe, Jacob (Hank), and Mike, and sisters Emma Scott and Racheal Oplinger. She's leaving behind her two fur baby cats, Verde and Picasso, which gave her many years of joy, smiles and companionship.

She will be sadly missed by her family and everyone whose life she touched. May she glide in on angels wings. Visitation will occur Sunday, April 10, 2022 from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00 pm at the C. Richard McCauley Funeral Home, Inc., Youngwood, PA. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, April 11, 2022 at 11:00am with Rev. Mark A. Wallace officiating. Interment to follow at Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
