Ellen Hillis

Ellen W. Hillis, 91, of Hunker, passed away Friday, December 27, 2024. She was born October 31, 1933, in Darragh, a daughter of the late Harry J. and Ora Mae Wilkins Werts. She had been a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, in Arona. Prior to retirement, she worked at Greensburg Sears Automotive for many years. Ellen, a.k.a. “Farmer Grammie” enjoyed gardening, farming, and animals. She was happiest with her hands in the dirt or holding a baby. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Grant B. Hillis; a son, Norman E. Gower, II, a sister, Patty Zahrobsky; and her dog, Mindy. Ellen is survived by three sons: Timothy J. Gower, of Amsterdam, N.Y., Eric R. (Samantha) Gower, of Greensburg, and Michael A. Gower, of Delmont; a daughter, Valerie G. (Leslie) Milliron, of Greensburg; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a cousin, Judy Humphrey; and her cats: Pixie, Missy, and Whiskers.
