April 9, 1933 - April 4, 2023 (Age 89)

Elmer Hubert King, Jr., 89, of Youngwood, died Tuesday, April 4, 2023, in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. He was born April 9, 1933, in Upper Burrell Township, a son of the late Elmer Hubert Sr. and Martha (Shimpeno) King. Prior to retirement he had been employed by Irwin Sensenich/Huwood Irwin. After retirement, Elmer had worked at Wilkinson Nursery. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Youngwood. He was a social member of the Southwest Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department and a social member of the Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department Hose Companies No. 1 and No. 2. Elmer had served on the Westmoreland County Fair Committee and could be found at every fair on his favorite bench with his wife, Julia. His love of children showed when he would play Santa at many fire stations, malls, banks, and at Overly’s Christmas Display. He loved to hunt and fish in his younger days and spent any time he could working in his garden and landscaping. In his later years, you would find him sitting on his porch watching the animals and people go by. He also loved all the time he spent with his grand puppies. Above all else though, Elmer was most proud of his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Rose (Vallozzi) King; his daughter-in-law, Darla (Wagner) King; and three siblings, Herbert King, Edith King, and Richard King. He is survived by his son, Elmer H. King, III and wife Stephanie (Fritz), of Youngwood; his daughter, Holly Lynn (King) Wright and husband William R., of Southwest Greensburg; three grandchildren, William R. Wright, Jr. (Leyna), Brian M. Wright (Elyse), and Amie Sankey (William); four great-grandchildren, Chase Sankey, Kayla Wright, Brennan Wright, and William R. Wright, III; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Thursday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg. A funeral liturgy will begin at 10 AM Friday in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Southwest Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department, 401 Guthrie St., Greensburg, PA 15601.
