Eugene Amruch

May 31, 1930 - May 10, 2024 (Age 93)

Eugene M. Ambruch, 93, of North Coventry, husband of the late Shirley (Smyrl) Ambruch and the late Beadie (Cummings) Ambruch, passed away peacefully on Friday May 10, 2024 at Genesis Quakertown.

Born in Lansford, he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary (Wasilko) Ambruch.

A 1948 graduate of Coaldale High School where he excelled in athletics. Prior to serving in the US Army Corp of Engineers as a 1st Lieutenant from 1952-1954, Gene was a member of the Philadelphia A’s organization playing in the Alabama and Carolina Leagues from 1949-1951 and was inducted into the Carbon County Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. Post WWII, Gene built over 200 bridges throughout Pennsylvania while working as a Surveyor and Superintendent for NYLEVE Bridge Corporation as well as continuing with his athletic passions which included playing competitive volleyball until he was 80, a feat he was very proud of.

Surviving is his daughter Jean Ann Maggio wife of Paul; grandchildren Janet Maggio, Paul Maggio Jr. Andy Ambruch, Chris Ambruch, and Zach Ambruch, husband of Ashley; great grandchildren Joey Jeffers, Luke Jeffers, Marley Ambruch, Landon Ambruch, Anya Stone, and Hunter Ambruch.

In addition, surviving Gene is his stepdaughter Jaylen Wisor, wife of Jim as well as grandchildren; Sarah Martinez, Sydney Wisor, and Mathew Wisor.

Along with his wives and parents, Eugene was predeceased by his son Douglas Ambruch.

The legacy of Eugene Ambruch’s athletic, military and construction passions will and are being carried out by loving grandchild and 10 great children…all of whom he has been a major influence on their success.

Funeral services will be held Thursday May 16, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, LLC., 711 N. Franklin St., Pottstown, PA 19464. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park, Pottstown. Visitation will be held Thursday from 10:00-10:45 AM at the funeral home.
