Evelyn T. Hewitt

Evelyn T. Hewitt, 98, of Southwest Greensburg, died Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. She was born May 10, 1924, in Ligonier, a daughter of the late John and Bessie (Betz) Thomas. Prior to retirement she had been employed by Stewart Drug and Surgical Supply. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Greensburg. Evelyn was extremely active in the church, serving as secretary and treasurer, and was also a member of the choir. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, the Palace Theater, and the Westmoreland Arts and Heritage Festival. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Hewitt; her son, Robert T. Hewitt; her brother, Edward Thomas; and two sisters, Stella Mough and Lenora Thomas. She is survived by her children, Diane E. Shirey (Chip), and Daniel J. Hewitt (Karen); daughter-in-law, Anne Hewitt; three grandchildren, Christine Belin (Dan), Jeffrey Hewitt, and Nolan J. Shirey; three great-grandsons, Peter, Tommy, and William; two sisters, Carol Love (Paul), and Patricia Fein (Paul); and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 3 to 6 PM Wednesday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg. A funeral service will begin at 11 AM Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Tammy L. Falcsik officiating. Private interment will be held in Westmoreland County Memorial Park. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 210 W. Fourth St., Greensburg, PA 15601.
